Saturday, 16th September, Copenhagen

Hi everyone.
Change of protocol!!    I'm going to load photos from each day and publish them,  telling you where we are (or were).   Cath can do her stories later.

Today we did a boat cruise on the canals,  called in to Georg Jensen,   then had a rickshaw ride back to our hotel,  although we couldn't afford the rickshaw fare!!!!

We went out as far as the Little Mermaid,  but didn't stop.   I wanted a photo with her,  but not to be,  unless we can get out there again tomorrow.   Apparently she gets graffitied a lot,  and the 'council' have to keep cleaning her.
There must be a wind farm out there somewhere,  even though these were the only two turbines we saw.

There are a lot of kayaks on the canals.   We won't be doing that!!!
There are also a lot of sculptures along the banks,  some recognisable,  some not.
The flag is flying from one of the royal residences,  meaning someone is home.

The old warehouses on the canals have been converted into apartments.   I don't imagine they're very cheap.   Other canals - those lined with boats and yachts - are presided over by the wealthy,  or very wealthy,  when you see the homes they live in.   The guide on our boat wasn't allowed to use the microphone or speak as we sailed along one canal in particular.   She didn't say why,  we assumed the constant noise was too much for the precious residents.
This church tower has over 400 steps going to the top.   Can't remember the name of the church,  but I think it's Catholic,  and there's a statue at the very top.   The view all the way up would be fantastic.  Haven't seen any other church tower with the steps on the outside!

Just about everyone rides a bike!!   They stop to wave as the barges (us) go under the bridges.   These bridges are very low,  and you have to sit down as you go under,  otherwise you'll lose your head!!!
The building above is called the Black Diamond,  and was designed by a famous Icelandic architect,  whose name shall remain forgotten!!

Having dinner tonight with Amy's friend from Uni,  Olga,  and her husband,  Martin.   Catching a bus,  so have to go now.

  2. You must know by now, Georg Jensen is a TRAP!!! Once you're there they hold you until a ransom is paid, try to negotiate the price down! The canal trip looks good, can't wait to see the photos of you on your hired bikes tomorrow. Till then, love Pam and Vernon xxxx
