Oslo - Saturday 26 & Sunday 27 August

Before I forget, here's the photo I promised at the end of the last entry:
Our hotel - directly to the left was the train station.  I can't find the photo that proves it absolutely!!
Before I move onto our adventures on Saturday evening, I want to confess that I lost my glasses on the plane on the way to Oslo.  It's a bit of an embarrassing story so I don't want to discuss it with anyone at any time.  Needless to say, Maureen has agreed never to talk about the incident with anyone except me and I trust her implicitly.  I had to buy new glasses at Oslo airport so I bought 2 pairs just for insurance.  Thank you, family, for your understanding in this matter.

Not sure how this works...
Saturday Night:
We did a dinner cruise around the Oslo Fjord - dinner was fresh prawns with white bread and butter and a sauce which I didn't try because the prawns were too delicious to put any other flavour with them.  They were small but very sweet, so delicious.
We sat with a Norwegian couple who were having their very first dirty weekend away together.  By the end of the evening, he was telling me he loved me - no, really, he did!!  I'm not sure how long that relationship is going to last...
The following photos are from the cruise.  It was beautiful out on the water, watching the sunset - eventually - and taking heaps of photos of beautiful houses that belonged to very rich people, according to Ula, my new admirer.

A curious - or hopeful and hungry - seagull...
A statue of a diver.

Maureen standing in front of the wrong ship.

Me in front of the right ship.

One of the houses of the rich from the ship on the fjord.

Sunset on the Oslo Fjord - around 9pm, I think.

Us with our new friends.

Coming back into Oslo - I'd had a few by then...

Norwegian wood...

...isn't it good?

Sunday morning - Maureen & I looking bright-eyed & bushy-tailed on the train on the way to the airport to leave for Iceland.

Oslo was pretty but not as lovely as Prague - beautiful old houses right next to new, modern buildings.  It suffered a great deal of damage during bombing raids in WWII and lost a lot of its historic character.  Everyone spoke English and the people were friendly and helpful.  If only we'd asked for directions to the hotel when we got off the train...

  1. Fully understand the bit about regrets! If only we knew then what we know now! Looks like you are having good weather, we have just had our second sunny day since we arrived in Ireland!
